She was born in the home of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar . her mother was Shewanti Mangeshkar . Lata Mangeshkar born on 22 October in the year 1924 is an Indian singer and film singeShe is widely known as the 'Empress of Indian Song'. She has won many National Film Awards and Filmfare Awards for her many songs, 'Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi', 'Ab to Tera Intezar', 'Lahore Ke Rang' and many more. For her contributions to the music industry, she has been awarded with Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award by the Government of India in 2000. One of the most celebrated personalities of her era, she is also the first and only Indian artist to receive the prize at a glamorous concert in London. She is married to Gurdas Singh Bhindrawale, with whom she has two daughters, Shabana and Zohra and a son, Hridaynath. Her son, Hridaynath, has been featured as a vocalist and violinist on a number of albums by his mother, and has participated in several songs by her, including a duet, "Suraj Ka Satrang" from the 1999 film, "Aakhri Mera Dil".



She has won two Filmfare Awards and three National Film Awards, and has been nominated for seven Filmfare Awards. Lata Mangeshkar is considered to be one of the most successful singers in the Indian cinema and is one of the greatest singers of all time, as she has sung over 40,000 songs. She has recorded almost every kind of genre of music, including ghazals, devotional, patriotic, film songs, hymns, dance numbers and classical. She has received several awards and honors and has been included in the greatest singers of all time list by BBC and "Time Magazine". She has over 300 films to her credit, and has been referred to as "Empress of Indian Songs", because of her prolific career as a playback singer in Hindi cinema. She has sung for over 300 songs in Hindi films. According to film historians, Lata Mangeshkar is probably the best-known singer in the world, and she is one of the greatest singers ever produced by India. At the age of 14, she started singing for All India Radio and got her first break at the age of 16 in B. R. Chopra's film "Jeevan Naiya" (1940) for singing "Ek Tha Istaa Gaye Ho". She was introduced to cinema by Chopra, who offered her to sing in films but denied her a role in it. She did not get to sing on screen for a year and became the heroine of "Jeevan Naiya" as per Chopra's wish. Mangeshkar was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award, India's highest award in cinema, on 7 April 2000, in recognition of her "outstanding contribution to Indian cinema". 

She is the first Indian singer and is one of the world's most awarded female singers. In 2004, she was ranked number nine on Channel V's list of "The Greatest Indian Singer Ever". In 2002, she was honoured with the Padma Bhushan, the third highest civilian award by the Government of India. On 13 August 2010, Lata Mangeshkar became the third Indian woman to be inducted into the International Songwriters Hall of Fame, a non-profit organization. In 2016, she was listed at number three in BBC's poll of the world's greatest singers of all time.
